COLOMBO: National Flags fluttered proudly at Galle Face Green as the 59th anniversary of Independence dawned yesterday. The colourful National Day celebration marking Sri Lanka’s liberation from foreign domination was held at Galle Face yesterday, with President Mahinda Rajapaksa participating as the Chief Guest.

COLOMBO: Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama who was on an official visit to Germany met with Peter Altmaier, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior on Friday and briefed Altmaier on the current developments in Sri Lanka and the LTTE’s international campaign to raise funds and procure arms to continue its terrorist and violent campaign.

| Britain sent under 18s to war in Iraq |

LONDON: Fifteen British soldiers aged under 18 have been sent to fight in Iraq since 2003, despite Britain having ratified a United Nations protocol against child soldiers, a Government Minister admitted yesterday.
Britain signed up to the optional UN protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict in 2003.

Facilities: The Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation (CFHC) has introduced customised credit cards for fishermen in settling their fuel bills.
Chairman, CFHC, Asanga Abeygoonasekara told Daily News they have already introduced ordinary credit cards for fishermen recently and now they could purchase fuel producing credit cards at three fishery harbours.
